Big Energy $72,000 – $67,000 (Exxon, Chevron, Shell, etc.)
e.g., some summer 2010 interns got offers on exiting of:
$72,000 + $ for years work experience
2009 continues to be constant or up a bit. They are hiring. Salaries are flat and will NOT increase over 2010. Internship hiring is “excellent” — more than 2009 and still a significant part of their recruiting strategy. Layoffs are NOT expected.
Consulting mid to high fifties (Accenture, Protiviti, Hitachi, Sungard, etc.)
2010-11 consulting hiring will be up from 2010. Consulting are expanding.
Other business areas $50,000 – $60,000 (USAA, accounting firms, smaller energy firms, etc.)
2010-11 hiring is likely to be constant. Current projects are being worked, but some large growth plans are on getting started with oil prices stable around $70. Salaries will generally not increase over 2010. Some layoffs are continued to be expected in financial/retail areas.
Internships
Internships are available — especially at energy firms. This has become a primary component of the recruiting strategy. More and more companies are relying on internships to provide an early 3 month look at new recruits.
